Sweltzer Creek Campground

The Soowahlie Campground first operated in the summers of 1987, 1988 and 1989 as a weekend facility. It was constructed by the Soowahlie Indian Band on their Reserve. The facility is owned by the Band, and has grown in popularity and enabled us to open throughout the entire summer.

The current campground consists of; 56 sites, a fully equipped washroom, two group tenting areas, a Gazebo, a small store, a pay phone, playground, and good gravel roads throughout. Additional land for further development is still available. 46 of the sites are un-serviced with respect to water, electricity & sewer, but the remaining 6 have electricity and water hookups. There are also fire pit grills and picnic tables available for each site.

The Soowahlie Campground is conveniently located close to the popular Tourist Village of Cultus Lake. Attractions in Cultus Lake itself include swimming, boating & water activities, a Go-kart track, water slide, two golf courses, hiking, fishing, and events at the Lake including canoe races, music festivals, etc.

The main access to the campground is via Sleepy Hollow Rd., and is used every summer, and is in very good shape.

There are also 2 nearby Provincial Parks with an estimated 90,000 campground visitors and 500,000 day use visitors annually. There are many attractions in the vicinity including; Dinotown Park, Minter Gardens, Stargate Lazer Runner(Tag), Sniper’z Paintball, Wonderland Amusement Park, Harrison Hot Springs, Abbotsford Air Show, and numerous others, that draw people to the area in ever increasing numbers.

Our longterm plans include; expansion of the campground to 128 sites of which 50 will be serviced with water sewer, electricity, and all will be set up with fire pit grills and picnic tables. We plan to also build Laundry & Arcade facilities. We will also provide additional power and area lighting within the grounds.

Soowahlie Campground is being targeted for the family and the workshop type group traffic. This is our current and proposed Target Market. Studies indicate that R.V. use and camping will continue to increase rapidly through the 2000’s, and this is clearly reflected in the 1997 Cultus Lake Park Plan.
