Soowahlie
is interested in you!! - a message from Tara Kelly
I am working in conjunction with Ernie Crey & Dave Sepass,
Th'ewali Resources Ltd. and Jim Morrison, Consultant, for
a project funded by Sto:lo Nation Human Resources Development.
I have been hired on a contract basis to help complete a
study involving our Soowahlie members. This study is focused
on members aged 15-64. The project is centered on developing
an Employment Strategy for Soowahlie.
We are needing the co-operation and enthusiasm of our members
to help make this study a success. The idea of the project
is to obtain a community profile of our peoples' skills,
talents, ambitions and goals. We want to understand where
everyone is in terms of education, their labor force involvement
and personal expectations.
Once the study is complete, the data will be summarized
into a final report that will be accessible by any member
within the community. The results are meant to provide a
strategy on how Soowahlie can use our natural and physical
resources along with our human resources (that's you!) to
create jobs, employment opportunities and generate more
profitable resources and revenue. By sharing with us your
goals, ideas and existing skills, we hope to establish a
connection between what already exists and what is attainable
in the future.
The study is set to begin at the beginning of December and
run through to the New Year. The process will be a brief
questionnaire that will be carried out by a few trained
surveyors. We want to express and emphasize that the study
is 100% confidential. The questionnaire will be done on
a one-to-one basis, scheduled to your own availability,
either by phone or in person. We respect everyone's privacy.
This study is meant to benefit the entire community so your
input is absolutely vital and greatly appreciated.
If there are any further questions or concerns regarding
this project, please feel free to contact myself, Ernie
or Dave. We appreciate your feedback. We are aiming to build
a foundation for our future. Implementing our community's
visions into action is the first step to achieving our strategy.
I look forward to getting to know more of the community!
I will be in touch.
